In the end, even our suitcases had cockroaches in them as we discovered after we arrived home. It was so bad, we couldn't put any food or groceries in the trunk of the car as the bugs would swarm it.
The very worst was the car that was absolutely INFESTED with cockroaches that we picked up on Kauai. Budget should have at least indicated some problem when I returned the car, but the attendant saw inside and outside of car and told me all was fine. At the international terminal rental car services have been temporarily relocated at the rental car pick up zone, please exit via door 8 and follow the signs. No way were we driving all the way up to Waikoloa when we couldn't see! One of the last cars was so bad, that we literally drove out of the car rental lot, made it back to the Kona airport terminal, and stopped in front there so I could run inside and get wet/dry paper towel and soap to clean it. This is really bad when you pick up late at night.
